BSM Washauri (TZ) Ltd. will run a leadership seminar titled “Newsroom Leadership in Election Season: Managing People, Money, Content and Crisis” on 22nd August 2025 at the BSM Washauri Academy, at the junction of Garden Avenue and Azikiwe Street, Dar es Salaam.

Targeted to sharpen Editors and Senior Political/ Election Reporters capability in managing the election beyond reporting, the seminar is expected to be opened by the Guest of Honour, Mr. Gerson Msigwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports & Chief Government Spokesman..

The session will bring together Senior Editors and Senior Political Reporters from leading Tanzanian media houses to sharpen their capacity in managing newsroom operations during the 2025 General Elections.

We are honoured to receive confirmation from Hon. Msigwa and collegues in the media for their readiness to participate. This is our small contribution to the sector and the nation during this critical season of elections. Our focus is on leading during election time because it is at that time when leadership in media houses and newsroom is put to litmus test,” said Bakari S. Machumu, Founder and CEO of BSM Washauri (TZ) Limited.

The seminar will be facilitated by Mr. Machumu, a veteran newsroom leader with experience covering three national elections in Tanzania, and Dr. Dotto Kuhenga, Head of Communication and Marketing, University of Dar es Salaam, and a distinguished academic and communication expert.

Why this seminar matters

The October 29, 2025 elections present both an opportunity and a challenge for Tanzanian media. Editors and Senior Reporters are not just storytellers but leaders who must balance editorial, operational, commercial, and safety responsibilities.

This seminar will provide practical strategies and tools on:

  1. Upholding editorial integrity amidst political pressures and misinformation.
  2. Pre-election planning, Election Day coordination and post-election analysis.
  3. Monetizing coverage responsibly while retaining public trust.
  4. Journalist safety: physical, digital, and psychological resilience.
  5. Crisis management and stakeholder engagement under limited resources.

Expected outcomes:

By the end of the program, participants will gain guidelines on leading at times of election and preparedness for the unexpected.
